Honing my skills!
From January 2021 to October 2021 I continued to hone my skills in various felted projects. I made many items, all of which I gave away to friends or family as gifts for birthdays, memorials, and other special occasions. In the back of my mind, the fairy village that I had made in the previous year, kept coming to the forefront.
I wanted to try my skills at including items that were not felted to create a diorama. One was for an anesthesiologist that I used to work with who loved Misty Day from American Horror Story.

I wet felted a shawl, cut out some cotton fabric print to needle felt onto her dress, made her a top hat, and added beaded embellishments.
Misty Day lived in a swamp, so I thought she should have a Cypress tree.
I wet felted the ground cover and placed it on a live edge wood block.
The other diorama was for a best friend of mine of over 44 years. She has a son that is in 4-H, so I included a small Waldorf story styled doll of him. I made one of me as well. This way, even though we live far apart, I’m always there with her. I love that the diorama is flexible in that it’s design will allow it to be used in all seasons. I wet felted fall & Halloween clothing as well as winter and Christmas.

Dressed for Christmas! All embellishments are removeable so that it can be used as for winter in general.
Again, I found myself working more on a miniature scale. I don’t find it particularly more difficult to do things on a smaller scale, but you have to be very mindful of your fingers! I wet felted clothing for the dolls, which was fun because I learned to make miniature patterns.
I really enjoyed all of the embellishing and going out shopping for all the little miniature items that I needed. Making a diorama that changed seasons was an endeavor into being creative so as to minimize the number of pieces I needed to make, so that I could finish the piece in the time allotted.
